Hanbin participated in the Bighit and Mnet survival program 'I-land' and was among the second batch of revealed applicants. He performed with fellow trainee Nicholas and (now Enhypen member) Ni-ki on the first episode.

All throughout the show's first part, Hanbin, as well as many trainees, endured minimal screentime. Hanbin was also among the few trainees who had never gone to I-land in the first part.

On episode 7, the beginning of Part Two, Hanbin was the sixth and last grounder to be saved by Global Votings. Among all the trainees who were able to make it to part two, he was ranked 12th (last).

Despite the lack of improvement in his screentime, part two gave Hanbin an even bigger chance to showcase his abilities to the viewers, and his fanbase grew with every round. On the 10th episode, he was able to reach the 4th rank through Global Voting.

However, he was eliminated in the next episode which was the semi-finals, ending up in 10th place. The ranking for this episode was determined by the show's producers. The remaining 9 then compete for the 7 debut spots in the finale episode.

During the finale, Hanbin joined the other 21 I-land trainees to perform Into the I-land.

Hanbin's voice can be heard in the studio version of Into the I-land (Applicants Ver.) and I&Credible.
